Bio-Resin Packaging
Bio-resin packaging is made of materials derived from renewable sources, such as corn and sugarcane. Evergreen is proud to introduce bio-resin in a number of conventional plastic categories, including tubes, caps, jars, and bottles. Bio-resin reduces our reliance on fossil fuel, and most bio-resin products can be recycled in standard recycling streams.
Specifications
Evergreen offers bio-resin packaging across a range of formats, with maximum bio-resin content varying by product. All Evergreen bio-resin facilities are ISO 9001 certified. Biodegradable options are available in select categories and are designed to fully biodegrade within two years when discarded in open land environments.

Frequently Asked Questions

01
Bio-resin packaging is packaging made from resins derived from renewable plant sources, such as corn and sugarcane, rather than petroleum. It offers a lower-carbon alternative to conventional plastics while performing much like them in appearance and function. Evergreen offers bio-resin options across conventional plastic categories, including tubes, caps, jars, and bottles.
02
Bio-resin is made from renewable, plant-based feedstocks rather than fossil fuels. Common inputs include corn and sugarcane, which are processed into biopolymers such as PLA (polylactic acid) and PHA (polyhydroxyalkanoates). These materials reduce reliance on petroleum while matching conventional plastics in look and feel. Evergreen's bio-resin options use sugarcane, corn, PLA, and PHA.
03
Recyclability depends on the specific bio-resin used. Bio-based versions of conventional plastics, such as bio-polyethylene, are chemically identical to petroleum-based plastics and can be recycled in standard streams, while compostable biopolymers like PLA typically require industrial composting rather than curbside recycling. Evergreen can advise which format best suits your product’s end-of-life goals.
04
Some bio-resins are biodegradable, but not all. Compostable biopolymers such as PHA and PLA can break down through microbial activity, while bio-based drop-in resins like bio-PET do not. Biodegradation usually requires specific conditions, such as industrial composting. Evergreen offers biodegradable bio-resin in select categories, designed to fully biodegrade within two years in open land environments.
05
The main difference is the raw material: bio-resin is made from renewable plant sources, while traditional plastic is derived from petroleum. Bio-resin lowers fossil-fuel reliance and carbon footprint, and can match conventional plastic in appearance, strength, and printability depending on the resin. Evergreen offers bio-resin alternatives across the same formats as its conventional plastic lines.
06
Bio-resin can be used across most conventional plastic packaging formats, including tubes, caps, jars, bottles, pumps, compacts, palettes, and lipsticks. It is especially popular in personal care, where brands use it for items like facial cleansers, body wash, shampoo, sunscreen, and moisturizers. Evergreen produces bio-resin packaging across each of these formats.
07
Bio-resin content varies by product and manufacturing method. Injection-molded parts typically incorporate up to 50% bio-resin, while extruded formats such as tubes can reach up to 100% bio-resin content. The achievable percentage depends on the performance and durability required for the specific package. Evergreen matches bio-resin content to each product's functional needs.
08
Bio-resin packaging is tested for quality through checks on dimensional accuracy, material consistency, structural integrity, and print quality, along with verification of bio-resin content and any biodegradability or compostability claims. Consistent standards across every production run are essential. Evergreen audits each facility across 165 quality management metrics, with QC engineers onsite at all productions.
