Frequently Asked Questions

01
Metal packaging spans a wide range of formats, including aerosol cans, chemical cans, aluminum bottles, aluminum tubes, cartridges, food metal cans, metal closures, and metal tins. The right format depends on your product type, fill process, regulatory requirements, and end-use application. Evergreen supplies metal packaging for industrial & household chemicals, personal care, and food & beverage. All Evergreen metal packaging facilities are ISO-certified.
02
The most common metals used in packaging are aluminum and steel, each selected based on the product's chemical compatibility, pressure requirements, and cost considerations. Aluminum is lightweight, corrosion-resistant, and widely used in personal care and beverage products. Steel offers greater structural strength and is preferred for industrial, chemical, and food applications where durability and pressure resistance are priorities.
03
Metal packaging offers a combination of durability, barrier performance, and recyclability that few other materials can match. It provides an effective barrier against light, oxygen, and moisture — protecting product integrity and extending shelf life. Metal is also infinitely recyclable without loss of quality, making it one of the most sustainable packaging materials available at scale.
04
Metal packaging is used across personal care, home care, industrial chemicals, and food & beverage. Aerosol cans are common in personal care and household chemical applications, while food-grade cans and beverage cans serve the food and drink sector. Chemical cans, pails, and cartridges are standard in coatings, adhesives, lubricants, and pesticide applications.
05
The certifications required depend on the product category. Aerosol cans must meet DOT pressure ratings in the U.S. and equivalent EU standards. Food-grade metal packaging requires FDA compliance testing. UN certification is required for chemical packaging. Evergreen's facilities are certified to ISO 9001 and DOT standards, FDA compliance testing is provided for food-grade products, and UN-certified specifications are offered.
06
Metal packaging supports several decoration methods, including lithographic printing, offset printing, matte lacquer, hotstamping, silkscreen printing, and embossing & debossing. Aluminum aerosol cans support up to 9-color offset printing along with embossing and debossing, while steel aerosol cans accommodate up to 8-color printing, plus dome printing. Aluminum bottles and tubes can be decorated with high-resolution offset printing for premium shelf presence.
07
Quality in metal packaging production is managed through material verification, dimensional inspection, pressure testing, leak & drop testing, and coating integrity checks. For regulated categories like aerosols and chemical cans, compliance verification is built into the production process rather than applied at the end. Evergreen QC engineers are onsite at all productions globally, and every facility in our network is audited across 165 quality management metrics.
08
Metal is one of the most sustainable packaging materials available — aluminum and steel can both be recycled infinitely without degradation in quality or performance. Recycling aluminum requires approximately 95% less energy than producing virgin aluminum, making it one of the most energy-efficient materials to recover.
