Frequently Asked Questions

01
Yes. Evergreen’s food-grade glass jars are designed to withstand the high temperatures and rapid cooling associated with hot-fill and pasteurization processes. In addition, Evergreen offers matching closures (lug caps, CT caps) with compatible liners that provide tamper evidence and preserve freshness. Whether you require hot-fill, pasteurization, or retort processing, our packaging solutions help protect product integrity while meeting FDA and international food safety standards.
02
Glass jars are typically supplied in bulk packs, 6-pack RSC cartons, or 12-pack RSC cartons. Cartons or bulk-packed layers are palletized and stretch-wrapped to reduce movement during transport and to provide protection in storage. Evergreen works with customers to match the right pack format to filling line requirements and downstream handling needs.
03
Yes. Glass jars can be customized through custom molds that create unique shapes or feature embossed and debossed logos. Additional decoration techniques, such as silkscreen printing, hot stamping, and decals, are also available. Evergreen has extensive experience in custom tooling and guides food brands through the design and development process to ensure packaging aligns with brand identity while meeting performance and safety requirements.
04
Yes. Glass is 100% recyclable and can be endlessly reused without loss of quality or purity. When recycled glass (cullet) is used in new production, it melts at a lower temperature, which reduces energy use and emissions. This closed-loop recycling process allows glass to retain its original quality every time it is re-melted and formed into new containers. For food brands, this makes glass one of the most sustainable and reliable packaging choices available.
05
Yes. All Evergreen glass jars are manufactured to meet FDA and international standards for food-contact safety. Third-party compliance testing, including heavy metal analysis, is conducted to verify performance against regulatory requirements. Production follows strict quality control procedures to ensure product integrity and consumer safety during storage, filling, and distribution.
06
Common lid options for glass jars include metal lug caps, continuous-thread caps, press-thread caps, composite caps, and other specialty caps. Closures can be paired with liners to provide tamper evidence, help preserve freshness, and ensure compatibility with products ranging from acidic foods to hot-fill sauces. Evergreen supplies a full range of closure types — see our Caps & Closures page for details.
07
Evergreen maintains a broad selection of standard sizes and develops custom molds when unique shapes are required — our portfolio of glass jars ranges from 1oz (30ml) to 135oz (4L). Common glass jar sizes include:
- 1oz–4oz sizes used for samples, spices, and condiments
- 8oz–16oz jars commonly chosen for jams, jellies, sauces, and nut butters
- 24oz–32oz jars for family-size products like pasta sauces or bulk pickles.
Wide-mouth jars are preferred for spreads and chunky foods, while straight-sided jars provide smooth labeling surfaces.
