Beer Bottles
Glass beer bottles are a popular packaging option for brewers. They preserve flavor and freshness, while serving as a versatile canvas for brand recognition. Choosing returnable glass bottles is a great way to reduce the environmental impact of packaging. All Evergreen beer bottle facilities are ISO9001, ISO14001, and FSSC22000 certified. FDA compliance testing is available.

Frequently Asked Questions

01
Beer is often packaged in glass bottles because glass is inert and non-porous, so it preserves flavor and carbonation without leaching into or absorbing taste from the beer. Glass also serves as a premium branding canvas and, in returnable formats, reduces packaging waste. Evergreen produces stock and custom glass beer bottles at food-grade facilities certified to ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and FSSC 22000.
02
Neither is universally better — glass bottles and aluminum cans suit different brewery priorities. Glass is inert, reusable in returnable systems, and preferred for premium shelf presence, while cans are lighter, block all light, and shatter-proof. Many breweries run both formats. Evergreen supplies glass and metal packaging, letting brands source either from a single partner.
03
The two dominant glass beer bottle sizes are the 355 ml (12 oz) North American longneck and the 330 ml (11.2 oz) European bottle. Other common formats include the 500 ml German/Belgian standard, the 650 ml bomber, and the 750 ml cork-and-cage bottle for specialty releases. Evergreen offers glass beer bottles from 150 ml to 1,000 ml (5 oz–34 oz) in both stock and custom shapes.
04
Most beer bottles are brown or amber because dark glass blocks UV light that reacts with hop compounds to create a "skunky" off-flavor, offering more protection than green or clear glass. Green and flint glass protect less and are usually chosen for branding. Evergreen produces beer bottles in amber, green, flint, and cobalt blue to balance protection with shelf appeal.
05
Common glass beer bottle decoration methods include silkscreen printing, pressure-sensitive and ACL labeling, embossing and debossing, frosting, color spray, and heat transfer. The right method depends on run size, budget, and the shelf look a brand wants. Evergreen offers silkscreen, PS/ACL decals, embossing/debossing, acid-etch frosting, color spray, electroplating, sandblasting, heat transfer, and labeling.
06
Beer bottles use several closure styles, most commonly crown caps in pry-off and twist-off versions, plus cork-and-cage or bar-top corks for specialty and Belgian-style beers. The bottle finish — GPI or DIN — must match both the closure and the filling line. Evergreen supplies crown pry-off, twist-off, pull-off, pry/cork combo, and bar-top cork closures with standard or custom finishes.
07
Glass beer bottles are 100% recyclable and can be melted and reformed repeatedly without loss of quality. Returnable systems extend this further by reusing the same bottle multiple times before recycling, cutting packaging waste. Evergreen supports sustainability goals with returnable glass options and beer bottle facilities certified to the ISO 14001 environmental management standard.
08
Glass beer bottles are tested through dimensional checks, internal-pressure and thermal-shock resistance testing, and automated visual inspection for defects such as cracks, bubbles, and uneven wall thickness. These checks confirm bottles can withstand filling, carbonation, and handling without failure. Every Evergreen beer bottle production is overseen by on-site QC engineers, with facilities certified to ISO9001, ISO14001, and FSSC 22000 standards.
