Frequently Asked Questions

01
Food and beverage products most commonly use glass bottles and jars, matching metal closures, food-grade metal cans, and metal closures (lug caps and CT caps). Format choice depends on the processing method, shelf life requirements, and brand positioning. Evergreen supplies all of these formats with food-contact compliance documentation.
02
Sourcing glass containers and metal closures from the same supplier is strongly preferable, because the supplier can compatibility-test components from each production lot to verify fit before shipment. Sourced separately, neither supplier is accountable for fit, and dimensional variation between lots often surfaces as leaks, misapplied caps, or stoppages on the filling line. Evergreen supplies glass bottles, jars, and metal closures together, with lot-level compatibility testing across both components.
03
Food-grade packaging is made from materials approved for direct food contact under FDA regulations in the US or EFSA standards in the EU, with linings and coatings that prevent migration into the product. Compliance must be documented for the specific material and application. Evergreen provides FDA compliance testing for all food-grade applications.
04
The main food safety certifications for packaging suppliers are HACCP, ISO 22000, FSSC 22000, and BRCGS — but not every product requires all of them. The right requirement depends on the product, destination market, and customer mandates. Evergreen's facilities hold the certifications relevant to the food formats they produce.
05
Food safety in packaging production depends on controlled manufacturing conditions, material traceability, and documented quality inspection at the source rather than only at delivery. Lot-level traceability allows any issue to be isolated quickly. Evergreen audits every facility across 165 quality management metrics, with QC engineers onsite at all productions.
06
Glass offers inertness and premium positioning, metal provides the longest shelf life and full light barrier for processed foods, and plastic delivers light weight and shatter resistance at lower cost. Processing method often decides — retort sterilization favors metal, hot-fill suits glass and heat-set plastic. Evergreen supplies all three under one strict quality management system.
07
Metal food cans are produced as either 3-piece cans, with a welded body and two seamed ends, or 2-piece cans drawn from a single sheet. 3-piece construction allows flexible sizing and is standard for many processed food formats. Evergreen manufactures both 2-piece and 3-piece food-grade metal cans with linings matched to the food product being filled.
08
Metal closures create the hermetic seal that preserves vacuum-packed and heat-processed foods, making them as critical to shelf life as the container itself. Lug caps are the standard for vacuum-sealed glass jars, while continuous thread (CT) caps suit non-vacuum applications — both requiring precise torque and liner compatibility. Evergreen manufactures lug caps, CT caps, and other metal closures for food applications.
